Trustodian

Wallet

Your keys never depended on Trustodian, so neither does getting your funds back. With your recovery phrase and standard wallet software you can open every wallet and vault yourself, even if Trustodian is offline or gone.

How it works

One phrase, a standard derivation, your funds

Trustodian wallets follow the BIP-39 standard. Recovery is the same deterministic procedure every compatible wallet runs, and none of it touches a Trustodian server.

recovery phrase→+ passphrase (if set)→derivation path→private key→address→funds

The is the part people get wrong. Each network uses its own, and a different path produces a different (empty) wallet. The guide's derivation-path table gives the exact value for every chain Trustodian supports.

What you need

Gather these before you start

Your recovery phrase

The 12 or 24 BIP-39 words you wrote down at setup. Every wallet on every chain in your account derives from this one phrase.

Without it there is nothing to recover from

Your passphrase, if you set one

The optional 25th word. A phrase with the wrong passphrase, or none, opens a different, empty wallet set. It has to be exactly right.

Trustodian never sees or stores it

Recovery Kit for some vaults

Bitcoin and Cardano vaults need the Recovery Kit file you downloaded when the vault was created. It holds the co-signer public keys and the script.

EVM, Solana, Tron and XRP vaults don't need one

Private-key imports are different

A wallet you imported by private key isn't derived from your phrase. Recover it with that key directly in any compatible wallet.

Keep those keys backed up separately

Step by step

Four steps to your funds

This is the outline. The guide walks each step with screenshots for every supported wallet and chain.

01

Identify the network

Work out which chain the funds are on: Ethereum or another EVM chain, Bitcoin, Solana, Cardano, Tron, or the XRP Ledger.

One phrase, but a different path per network

02

Wallet or vault?

A personal wallet restores with the phrase alone. A multisig vault needs the quorum: the other signers' keys plus, on some chains, the Recovery Kit.

The guide has a section per vault type

03

Pick third-party wallet software

Any standards-compliant wallet works: for example a hardware wallet, MetaMask, Sparrow, Phantom, or the chain's reference wallet.

The guide lists tested wallets per chain

04

Apply the derivation path and restore

Enter the phrase and passphrase, set the derivation path from the guide's table, and confirm the first address matches the one you know.

Wrong path means an empty wallet, not lost funds

Stay safe

Your phrase is the whole wallet. Treat it that way.

  • Type your recovery phrase only into wallet software you trust, on a device you control. Never into a website, a chat, or a form.
  • Trustodian support will never ask for your recovery phrase, passphrase, or wallet password. Anyone who does is not Trustodian.
  • Do the recovery offline where the wallet software allows it, then connect only to broadcast.
  • After recovering, move funds to a fresh wallet if you suspect the phrase was ever exposed.
